Painted in watercolour in the blue/green sea wash so typical of Birchall's paintings together with the smoke and ash plumes from the boilers.

This painting measures 59x42cms and was cleaned and re framed in 2001. A striking painting of a famous warship. ​

Maloja in the Suez Canal

The Maloja was a P&O steamship and was on her way to Bombay from Tilbury in September 1916 when she hit a mine 2 miles off Dover & sank. She is painted here on her way back from Bombay.  40x35cms. Reframed but could do with a light clean.
